Dr. Michael Browne of SA Photonics Receives a Champion of Small ...

SA Photonics, a leading small business in the optics industry, today announced that Dr. Michael Browne, Vice President of Business Development at SA Photonics, was awarded a Champion of Small Business Innovation Award by the Small Business Technology Council (SBTC). The SBTC is the largest Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) advocacy group in the United States.

Dr. Browne received the prestigious award for his widespread and energetic efforts to ensure the Congressional reauthorization of the SBIR program, which occurred after nearly 3 years of half measures and short-term extensions had left the program in critical condition.

?This award is recognition of the hard work that many small businesses did to win meaningful support from Congress on SBIR,? said Dr. Browne. ?We now look forward to Congress working with the President to address the growing disparity between the large number of small businesses and the miniscule amount of Federal research and development funding that they receive.?

As part of his efforts to promote SBIR awareness, Dr. Browne helped establish the Bay Area Innovation Alliance, the only San Francisco Bay Area organization devoted to helping small businesses become successful through the SBIR program.

SA Photonics is a pioneer in the development and deployment of innovative photonics solutions for military and commercial customers.
